Our Bulldog started developing a bilateral, alopecia on her sides, also known as flank alopecia. It started as small spots that looked like pock marks, then they kept progressing until she had large, hairless patches on each of her sides. We were told they were mostly likely seasonal and due to diminished amounts of sunlight but they would mostly self resolve after a few months. The spots have, at times, started to appear to be resolving only to persist. We changed her food to a healthier brand. We are now changing her shampoo based off the recommendation of this site. Could the alopecia be caused by some sort of skin infection or bacteria? I am consider rubbing her sides with the malacetic wipes. Any thoughts or advice are much appreciated. Thank you!!!
How old is your bulldog and when how long has it been since she developed these spots. Also, wondering what food you were using before and what you use now. How long has she been on the new food? We don’t have much experience with Alopecia, but last year Cally developed some sort of allergic reaction to her food that caused her to loose hair in spots. The spots were about the size of a silver dollar and growing. Another weird thing is where her spots were the skin had turned black. Is this anything like you’re experiencing?
If you could submit the answer to those questions I asked, that would help myself and others on the forum with your question. I would also like to submit this to our Facebook Followers as well as my personal vet if needed.
